Superior Steel Supply inventories, distributes and processes a wide range of heat-treated plate. 400 & 500 Formable plate typically comes in a range of 3/16” up to 1 1/2” thick and is generally produced in 96” wide with various lengths. Standard lengths are 144” and 288”.
Superior Steel Supply can process your plate requirements to size with our inhouse and 3rd party burning services.
Plate produced domestically can accomplished by Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) mills that use 95%+ post-consumer recycled scrap, by integrated mills that use iron ore, cooked coal (coke) and limestone or by a rerolling mill that is buying semi-finished slabs from other sources.
The heat treat process occurs after the mill produces the plate. The heat treat process alters the physical properties generally increasing strength and yield.
Heat treat plate is commonly produced in 400 & 500 formable, which has a higher Brinell harness rating than ASTM A514.
ASTM is the American Society for Testing and Materials
AR 400 & 500 formable plate is generally used in the wide array of steel applications including impact or sliding abrasion resistant applications, aggregate, mining, pulp & paper, cement, wood products, recycling and MRO (maintenance, repair and operational).
AR 400 & 500 formable plate is a popular selection for use in the above applications as the material is commonly plasma cut, flame cut, laser cut, drilled, machined, formed, welded and can be industrially coated.
