• Superior Steel Supply inventories, distributes and processes a wide range of carbon as rolled plate. Plate typically comes in a range of 3/16” up to 12” thick and can be procured widths of 48”, 60”, 72”, 84”, 96” and 120” wide with various lengths. Standard lengths are 96”, 120”, 144”, 240”, 360” and 480”.

Plate can be produced at the mill in the as rolled condition or can be leveled from coil. Coil thickness ranges generally include 3/16” to ½” in all the widths above expect 120” wide and can be leveled to custom lengths. Plate produced domestically in the as rolled condition can accomplished by Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) mills that use 95%+ post-consumer recycled scrap, by integrated mills that use iron ore, cooked coal (coke) and limestone or by a rerolling mill that is buying semi-finished slabs from other sources.
Carbon plate, also called mild steel, is generally produced from the mill with the grade specification of ASTM A36, but can also be produced in a variety of other grades including ASTM A572 Gr50 (high strength low alloy), ASTM A656 gr80 (high strength low alloy), ASTM A516 gr70 (pressure vessel quality), ASTM A588 (corrosion resistant), etc.

Plate is generally used in the wide array of steel applications including construction, infrastructure, structural fabrication, bridges, mining, energy, transportation, equipment and MRO (maintenance, repair and operational).
Plate is a popular selection for use in the above applications as they are commonly plasma cut, flame cut, laser cut, drilled, formed, welded and can be industrially coated.
